Searching the Database
You can use any one, or any number of the search criteria. The more you use together, the narrower the search. For example, if you only put a name in the School/University/Institution box you will get all the programs offered by that School. If you select only a category in the Program Focus Category box you will get all the programs that are available with that subject focus. Remember to reset all the boxes you have used before you do another search.
Searching For a School or Institution
Sometimes Business Schools are known by their own name - and sometimes by the name of their parent Institution/University. To make it easier for you to find a particular place, you need only put in a name (or in some cases a set of letters) - and the search facility will look for it in both the School name and the Institution name categories. To be sure to find what you want you may want to try more than once with different versions of the name - just in case you have only a part of the full name, or the commonly used name is not actually the full name or names have changed.
In the database the School/Dept/Faculty name is usually the first line of the address - whether that be the name by which the place is known (e.g., the XXX School of Management) or simply the description of a department within an Institution (e.g., the Dept of Management). The Institution/Organisation name is usually the second line of the address.
If You Are Looking For a Program with a Particular Subject Focus
We have grouped programs according to their main subject focus- the 'Program Focus Category', eg General Management, Finance, etc. Each category description covers several related descriptions. These specific descriptions are used in the program listings. We have categorised in this way - simply because there are far too many specific desriptions to use in the search box. Notice also that many programs have electives or options within them to enable students to specialise in particular areas - we do not identify these.
Program Structures
You can search the database to find those programs that have a particular structure. The categories are :- Full Time (ie those programs which require your full committment - even though the lectures etc may be scheduled only for particular days or particular times of the day); Part Time (programs which are designed to enable you to continue with your job - usually involving short but frequent sessions, eg particular days or evenings each week); Modular (again designed to enable you to continue with your job - but with longer sessions occuring less frequently, eg for several weeks a few times each year), and Distance (programs that do not require any, or very little, attendance at a Business School. These include Internet or On Line programs as well as those that use Video Conferencing and more traditional distance methods such as printed materials, tapes etc distributed by post). Note that to find On Line or Internet delivered program in the database - first search for Distance programs - then look at the 'Attendance Pattern' on the program details pages
Program Location
You can search by the Country in which the program is run, the County/State or Province, and the City/Town. Don't just search by one only as it is too easy to miss what you are looking for. Remember some cities - (often capital cities) are not in a County/State etc. and a School in a State adjacent to such a city might be only a short distance away. In some cases the Country , State and Town are the same. Also remember that spellings may be different in English and the local language, but in the database, all locations are given with their English spellings.
To be sure - search under more than one category
Distance Programs. Note that Distance programs (including Internet and On-Line programs), with a few exceptions, are not confined to a particular location. So, if you search for a program by a particular country - most Distance programs will not be listed. To find them search under 'Distance' in Program Structure and 'ANY' location.
Part Time and Modular Programs
If you are looking for these take care - as the distinction between the two is often not a clear one. Whilst usually a part time program requires regular attendance for short periods of time - classically one day per week, and a modular program requires less frequent but longer periods of attendance, the descriptions adopted by Schools for their programs sometimes do not reflect this. So you may want to look at both types of program to be sure that you have covered everything of interest to you.
Notice also that the attendance requirements for some part time programs cannot easily be stated - as there is often some flexibility. For example where a School requires the completion of a given number of courses to get an MBA and where those courses are scheduled at particular times of the week, month or year - those who wish to follow a part time route may simply be allowed to attend whichever course they can - the choice of attendance being theirs.
Full Time Programs
All the programs listed as full time are intended to require the full committment of the participants. Usually they will require attendance most days of most weeks - so they will be incompatible with full time employment In some cases however, particularly in the USA even full time courses have classes scheduled only for evenings - often so that they can also be attended also by those following a program on a part time basis. However - whilst the 'part timers' will attend only some of them, the full timers will be expected to attend more so as to complete their courses in a shorter time. In these cases it will not be expected that 'full time' students will also be in full time employment - but part time employment is may be a possibility in many situations.
Program Duration
Select one or more of the duration categories from the drop down list on the search form to find programs with durations within those categories.(Notice that some programs do not have a fixed duration. The actual duration will depend on how quickly you progress, eg resulting from the number of courses you take at any time. The minimum and maximum durations are shown in the program details for these programs).
Degree Titles
Whilst the MBA degree title is used throughout the world - not all Universities call their Masters degee level Management or Business qualification an MBA. This is especially the case in countries where the first language is not English and when the program is not tought in English. So, especially in Spanish, French or Italian speaking countries some of the programs have different degree titles. We have included such programs in the database - but not shown the diffrent titles. In some other cases MBA equivalent English language programs have different degree titles. For example some specialist programs have a title which differentiates them, eg MIHM (Master in Health Management), MIM (Master in International Management). These are often accredited programs - just like MBAs, so we have included these also and shown where possible the different Degree title. So as not to stray too far away from Management/Business into related subjects, we do not list MA or MSc programs except where the School has convinced us that their program is in other respects equivalent to an MBA, and would probably be an MBA degree in another Institution. In these cases also we show the degree title where possible.
Program Accreditation
Check out the information on Accreditation on the Glossary page. Note that the details on the site identify whether a program is accredited by certain Accrediting organisations ( They are listed and described on the Glossary page). Other programs may be accredited by other organisations - or not at all, and for these cases we leave the Accreditation line blank.
Start Date of Program
The information given in the database is intended to apply from one year to the next, so where a month is given for a program start date - there may be some years when the actual date is the beginning of the following month or the end of the previous one. Always check with the School to be sure.
The same applies to application deadlines
Distance Programs. Note that, with a few exceptions, Distance programs (including Internet and On-Line programs) have flexible start dates. So, if you search by any start date - Distance programs will not be listed. To find them do not specify a start date.
Interpreting the Data
Where information is not available or was not provided by the School, a '?' is used. If a section is not applicable or relevant, N/A is used.
Most of the telephone and fax numbers are the national numbers - ie the numbers to use if you are calling from within the country - but check if you need a leading zero. If you are calling from outside the country you will need to add the international dial code, etc. Toll free numbers are not listed - as they are sometimes not usable from outside the particular country.
Getting comments on a program from its graduates
We invite graduates of programs to make themselves available to those who are interested in following that program to ask them questions. Where one or more graduates have volunteered - their name and date of graduation will appear as the last field on the program details listing. To contact them - click on the name - and send them an E Mail. Remember - these people have offered to be available to help - so serious questions only please. If your E Mail is returned as undeliverable - please let us know, but we are unable to help in other matters - eg slow or non replies
Printing the Results
The results of the searches can be printed page-by-page using the printing facilities of your web browser. This can be particularly useful if you require a copy of an individual Program's details for future reference.
